A unified school district is a complex and delicate organization.  Mount Diablo Unified is no exception.  There are many things that a board member and administration must consider for the benefit of students.  First and foremost, we must address student needs, always keeping in mind that all students are individuals with individual needs.  As educators, we must find the way to meet each student's individual need.  In addition, school districts are responsible to address wide and diverse programs.  The following are but a few responsibilities of school districts: programs including general education and special education, English language development, Title 1, underperforming schools mandates, gifted and talented, reading specialist support, student services, common core standards, state and federal assessment and accountability, extended day, as well as providing healthful and nutritious meals, including breakfast and lunch, with free and reduced programs.   After school homework or extended day programs are also instrumental in providing the needed support for our students.  In addition, facilities must be maintained, technology must be provided, along with support, and a myriad of local, state and federal rules and regulations to which we must adhere.  As a board member, I will do all I can do ensure that MDUSD is in full compliance with all programs and regulations for the benefit of our students.
